FAQ

What's the intallation process?

SunClick needs to be installed by a qualified electrician because it sits inside your electrical switchboard. Due to its design it is a relatively quick and easy install - SunClick is a single-width, DIN rail mounted device that is installed on your water heater circuit.

Does SunClick need an internet connection to operate?

SunClick needs an internet connection for the initial setup, but once set up it does not need a continuous internet connection for its core functions. An internet connection would be useful if you wanted to monitor the system via the companion app, or if/ when you wish to update specific values (e.g. if your power tariff structure changes).

Is SunClick still useful if I have the daily three hours of free electricity plan?

Yes - both SunClick or a timer will be effective at running your water heater in the free electricity window. SunClick has advantages over a simple timer - it allows you to easily adapt if and when that tariff structure changes, and within the free power window SunClick can still shift your water heater load to use available solar and help support the local grid.

Can I manually override the control?

Yes, you can! The SunClick companion app lets you "boost" your water heater if you need to, or lets you pause operation if you'll be away for an extended period.

Can I use SunClick to control my heat pump?

Unfortunately, no. SunClick is only suitable for resistive electric water heaters.

Can I use SunClick to control my electric vehicle charger?

No, this is not a good application. Intelligent EV chargers are becoming more common, and many EVs can be programmed to charge at a certain time. EV charging is also likely be be a higher priority than water heating, so the water heater should be the load that is controlled. The good news is that a SunClick water heater controller will detect when an EV charger turns on and reduces the local voltage to the point that power is imported from the grid, and will temporarily turn off the water heater circuit.

I sometimes suffer from under-voltages in my area - will SunClick work with under-voltages?

Yes; our tests demonstrated that SunClick reduces the incidence of under-voltages (also called 'brownouts'), and so reduces the risk of damage to equipment, especially appliances with electric motors.

When will SunClick be available to purchase?

We don't yet have a launch date set, but if you sign up to our contact list, you will be the first to know when SunClick becomes available
